Terms of Service

This document sets out the terms of using StatJolt, available at statjolt.com. By registering you accept them. If you disagree with any part of it, please do not register.

1. The provider

I run StatJolt as a private individual. There is no company behind it.

2. Definitions

  • Service: the web analytics service available at statjolt.com.
  • User: anyone who registers for the Service. Referred to below as "you".
  • Website: the site on which you install the Snippet.
  • Visitor: a visitor of the Website.
  • Snippet: the piece of JavaScript you embed in the Website.
  • Badge: the link to StatJolt displayed on the Website.

3. What the Service does

StatJolt is cookie-free web analytics. It shows visitors, page views, sessions, traffic sources, UTM parameters, countries, devices and browsers, and it measures Core Web Vitals, JavaScript errors, conversion funnels and visitor journeys.

The Service uses no cookies, creates no browser fingerprint and does not follow a Visitor across websites or across days. Raw IP addresses are never written to disk. The details are in the Privacy Policy.

4. How the contract is formed

The contract is formed when you register, for an indefinite term. Registration requires a working email address. System messages sent to that address (password, notifications, important changes) are part of performing the contract and cannot be unsubscribed from. Newsletter-style messages can.

One natural or legal person may hold one account. You may not share your account details, in particular your password.

5. Free use and the Badge

The Service is currently free of charge. In return I ask for one thing: that you display the Badge.

  • The Badge must be visibly displayed on every measured Website.
  • You choose how it looks in the settings: position (floating bottom right or bottom left, next to an icon row, centred on a new line), wording (five variants) and a light or dark theme.
  • You may not hide the Badge with CSS, remove it with JavaScript, make it transparent or unreadable, and you may not add a rel="nofollow" attribute to its link.
  • If the Badge disappears from the Website, I will let you know by email. If it does not come back, I may suspend measurement of that Website or your account.
  • Hiding the Badge will be available in a paid plan in the future.

If a paid plan launches later, I will inform you by amending these Terms with advance notice. Data already collected is not affected.

6. How the Snippet works

The Snippet carries your account identifier, not an identifier for each Website. The same code works on all of your Websites, so you do not need a separate one per site.

This has a consequence: if the Snippet appears on a domain that is not yet in your account, the system adds it automatically in a pending state and collects data for it in the meantime. In your account you can decide whether it is yours. If you reject it, data collection for that domain stops immediately.

For this reason you may only place the Snippet on a Website you own or manage under a mandate.

7. Your obligations

  • You only measure Websites you are entitled to measure.
  • You inform Visitors about the measurement in your own privacy policy and name StatJolt in it. On your Website you are the data controller and I am the processor.
  • You do not send personal data into the Service. Page paths, page titles, the name, category and label of custom events, and JavaScript error messages must not contain names, email addresses, phone numbers, customer identifiers or anything else from which a specific person can be identified.
  • You do not measure a Website that breaks the law, incites hatred, harms minors or infringes the rights of others.
  • You do not generate artificial traffic and do not send fabricated events to the collection endpoint.
  • You keep your password safe and tell me if you notice unauthorised access.

8. Prohibited use

It is prohibited to circumvent the security measures of the Service, reverse engineer the source code, load the collection endpoint with automated requests, attempt to access another User's data, resell the Service under your own name, or use the Service in any way that endangers its operation or the server.

9. Availability

StatJolt is run by one person and is currently offered free of charge. It follows that:

  • There is no guaranteed availability and no SLA.
  • Measurement may be interrupted by maintenance, faults, attacks or an outage at a supplier.
  • I give no guarantee that measured data will be preserved in full.
  • Measured data is not accurate in the statistical sense: bot filtering, ad blockers, browsers without JavaScript and disabled sessionStorage all distort it. Do not base business decisions on it alone.

10. Intellectual property

The StatJolt name, the logo, the interface and the source code of the Service are my intellectual property. You may embed the Snippet in your Website, but this grants no right to copy, modify, reverse engineer or pass on the code.

The data collected from your Website is yours. I handle it as a processor, do not use it for my own purposes and do not sell it.

11. Liability

This is a free service, so to the fullest extent permitted by law I exclude my liability for lost profit, data loss, indirect and consequential damage, and damage arising from an outage of the Service.

This limitation does not extend to liability for damage caused intentionally, or for a breach of contract that harms human life, bodily integrity or health.

12. Termination

  • You may delete your account at any time, without giving a reason, in the account settings. Deletion removes your account data and the measured statistics belonging to it. It cannot be undone.
  • I may terminate the contract at any time with 30 days' notice, sent by email.
  • In case of a serious breach I may suspend or delete the account with immediate effect. A serious breach includes in particular: measuring a Website with unlawful content, removing the Badge after a repeated request, generating artificial traffic, or attempting to access another User's data.

13. Changes to these Terms

I may amend these Terms. I will give you at least 15 days' notice of a material change, by email and in the interface. If you do not accept the change, you may terminate the contract by deleting your account. Continuing to use the Service after the change takes effect means you accept it.

14. Complaints and remedies

You can send complaints to hello@statjolt.com. I will look into the complaint and reply in writing within 30 days.

If you qualify as a consumer and the complaint is not resolved, you may turn to the conciliation board competent for your place of residence (contact details: bekeltetes.hu), or start a consumer protection procedure at the competent Hungarian government office.

15. Governing law

The contract is governed by Hungarian law, in particular Act V of 2013 on the Civil Code and Act CVIII of 2001 on electronic commerce services. Disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Hungarian courts. In contracts with consumers, jurisdiction is determined by the applicable legislation.

16. Miscellaneous

  • This document is available in several languages. In case of any discrepancy, the Hungarian text prevails.
  • If any provision of these Terms becomes invalid, the remaining provisions stay in force.
  • Data handling is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms an inseparable part of these Terms.
